Hey Pie I will add my welcome to the Twitter-verse (?). Check out Digsby as an aggretating client - it does not have Yammer (yet) unfortunately, but it does have Web mail (google etc), Facebook, Twitter so it just runs in the background and pops up a notification when one of said services has an update for you.

There more stuff like this that comes along (I already use a multi-service / multi-protocol IM client) its going to be the aggregators that become key. Either a fat client type desktop app, or as functionality from your enterprise portal. ECM systems let you subscribe to content (folders or even single files) via "old fashioned" email or RSS, and on corporate IM and Yammer, RSS updates from your twenty plus project workspaces..... status updates from Facebook or you secure internal social network...... etc etc..... And lets not even go there where it comes Records Management of Yammer posts...... :-)

I think a client is solely dependent on the Yammer API as I see enough Twitter ones out there to know that it is open. I think Chuck's point about Yammer is valid, the larger environment makes Twitter more valuable for many things.

You know, as I type this, I think that a dual client might be bad. I can see someone accidently throwing something on Twitter that should have stayed in-house on Yammer.

Welcome to Twitter Pie. Interesting to read Chuck's note on Twitter for the enterprise. He does mention Yammer but only in passing. We have found it very useful in our organisation and we are seeing some growth in users. There are some concerns of course with the content not being owned by the organisation. If only someone could build a client to handle connections to all these so I would be able to Tweet, Yam (sic?) etc... from the one place.
