You should read what I said more closely. I said that Johnny and I should be able to pass, barely, the Specialist exam. I didn't say that others couldn't as well. I expect there are some non-EMC people that would do better, and many that would do worse without study. My point was that only upper-level Documentum architects should be able to pass the Specialist exam (what should be the easiest of the two architect exams) without studying. I have no idea how many of those there are, but it would be a minority of Documentum professionals. It should be designed so that a majority could pass it with studying.

I then said that ONLY EMC architects should be able to pass any Expert Level exam without preparation. I, and most likely Johnny, would have to hit the books and study, hard. I in no way said that other people couldn't study and pass it as well.

I used Johnny to illustrate because Johnny is viewed, correctly, as a good Documentum architect, and I know him. I use myself because I believe myself to be good Documentum architect, and I write this blog. There are others that I know personally that are as good as the two of us, but as they don't blog, they are just random names to most of my readers. I have to assume that there are others out there that are as good, if not better than either of us. However, any Expert level exam should be so hard that all non-EMC architects should have to study. That goes for Johnny, myself, you, and anyone out there.

I in no way meant to offend you or imply that Johnny and I were the top of the heap.

This is a very prudish statement-> "Another way to tell the difference…Johnny and I should be able to pass, barely, the Specialist exam without studying. We should have to hit the books to pass the Expert exam. There shouldn’t be anyone out there that could pass the Expert exam without preparing for it outside of EMC’s top Documentum Architects."

What you are saying here is that no one else except you, Johnny, and EMC architects can qualify as being an architect. There are several architects out there who don't work for EMC [other than you and Johnny] that are really good.

Johnny, I'm not sure it is an Expert exam. In theory, Expert exams require a Specialist exam as a prerequisite, similar to how the Associate level exam, Documentum Technical Fundamentals, is required to take any of the other exams.

As you said, we will have to wait and see.

You bring up some very good points Laurence. I guess we wont know until the exam is written and the exam topics are posted. As for the EMC Expert level for Content Management, I believe the Documentum Architect exam is Expert certification exam.
